In the meantime, check out our four facts about teeth whitening:
- Whitening Won’t Last Forever – Whitening treatments typically last anywhere from a few months to about a year, depending on how you care for your teeth. They aren’t meant to be permanent. If you’d like a more lasting solution, ask us about a bonding treatment. Dr. Denise Murmann can apply thin layers of tooth-colored composite (the same material used for fillings) to your teeth to hide discoloration and staining. Bonding will typically last a few years.Â
- You May Experience Some Sensitivity – Professional products are less likely than those sold at drugstores to cause sensitivity. Still, it can happen. To minimize sensitivity, use a toothpaste especially designed for sensitive teeth. Also only use a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoid brushing too hard.Â
- Restorations Won’t Whiten – Unlike natural teeth, restorations like dental crowns will not respond to whitening treatment. If you know you’ll be getting a restoration and are also interested in whitening, we recommend whitening first. That way, we can match the color of your restoration to your whitened teeth.Â
- You Can Extend the Length of Your White Smile – A few best practices will help keep your teeth looking beautifully bright. Don’t smoke. Brush and floss every day, and see us at least twice a year for professional cleanings. Avoid staining foods and drinks as much as you can. Use a straw, if possible, when drinking staining beverages like tea and soda. Rinse your mouth with water after consuming staining substances.
